Tips to ensure your Thanksgiving goes smoothly
Make Sure To Program Your Thermostat: The Department of Energy suggests that you program your thermostat to 68 degrees when you are in your home. Remember that when you host Thanksgiving at your home there are more people in the home which will generate heat. Your oven and stove are running all day and possibly night, so use that energy to help heat your home, don’t let it go to waste. It will also heat up pretty quickly in your kitchen when you are doing all that cooking.
Don’t Pour Grease Down The Drain: Fats, oils, and drippings from your Thanksgiving Turkey will clog your drains. Save a can and pour the oil drippings in that and not down your drain.
Check Your Washing Machine Hoses: Make sure that the hoses on your washing machine are in good shape. One of the most common ways a flood happens in a home is when a hose breaks on the washing machine.
Set Your Water Heater: Set your water heater to about 125 degrees. Setting your water heater to a comfortable temperature will ensure safety for the children from scalding themselves as well as ensure that you have hot water for all of your guests. A quick tip to ensure that everyone has hot water is to ask guests to wait about ten munites between showers, that way everyone gets a hot shower.
Change Your Filter: Before everyone arrives to make sure that change your filters. The Department of Energy states that you should replace your filters at least 4 times a year. Changing your filter regularly can not only reduce your energy bill but also reduce the number of allergens in your home, making sure that your guests are healthy while visiting.
