How Does a Whole-Home Air Purifier Work?

Lakewood Plumbing & Heating installs the award-winning APCO is the ultimate whole-house air purifier. It kills airborne mold, germs, and allergens, and removes odors and toxic volatile organic compounds from the air. APCO combines UVC light with activated carbon cells in a process called photocatalytic oxidation. Read the APCO-X Brochure here.

APCO-X combines UV-C light and our proprietary EverCarbon™ cells to safely reduce odor-causing VOCs and biological contaminants. For the remaining third (particulates) consider adding a Fresh-Aire UV Purity Low Profile polarized HVAC filter.

Validated Ozone Free

Fresh-Aire UV APCO is the first UV/PCO based air purification product line to achieve the UL environmental claim validation (UL-2998) which identifies air purification systems that emit zero ozone. They are then listed in the UL SPOT database of sustainable products

Complete IAQ Solution

APCO-X or APCO-X Dual (which includes a second UV-C light for coil disinfection) can be combined with our Purity Low Profile polarized electronic filter system for a complete and comprehensive indoor air quality solution.

• VOC Chemical vapors and odors
• Mold, bacteria, viruses, and allergens
• Particulates, dust, pet dander, spores, dust mites etc.

Clean Coils

APCO-X Dual includes a second UV-C light for additional HVAC coil disinfection.

Does a whole-home air purifier help with COVID-191

Fresh-Aire UV has been receiving inquiries regarding the effectiveness of UV disinfection systems against COVID-19 (coronavirus). We believe the best approach is to be as transparent as possible and to explain the fundamentals and variables that play a factor in inactivating coronavirus and other pathogens with UVC germicidal technologies. 1

Fresh-Aire UV systems are tested and validated against bacteria, viruses, mold & fungus. Fresh-Aire UV systems have been tested and achieve up to a *99.999% reduction on microorganisms. There are a number of factors that need to be addressed in order to determine efficiency, these include but not limited to, the application, such as surface or air disinfection, air velocity and temperature, recirculation rates, and dwell time, as well as the specific biological target. Fresh-Aire UV systems are installed in the HVAC unit and/or ductwork and are designed to disinfect surfaces and the air as it circulates through the ventilation system. UV dosage can be measured in several ways including microwatts per second/centimetres2 (μWs/cm2). 1

Every microorganism requires a specific UVC dosage for inactivation including coronavirus. UV disinfection has been employed for decades in water treatment; these microwatt values have been used for reference to gauge UVC efficiency against a large cross-section of microorganisms. While Fresh-Aire UV systems have not been specifically tested against coronavirus, they have been tested and proven effective against similar pathogens, some that require an even greater dosage for inactivation than coronavirus.1

UV disinfection systems for room, surface & HVAC are an ideal proactive measure to complement filtration. Microorganisms, particularly viruses, are so small that filters are mostly ineffective. The UV systems have also been shown to reduce problematic molds and pathogens that are found within the HVAC system and drain pan that would otherwise be introduced and distributed throughout the envelope of the building.1
